Chapter One
Day 1 It starts. It started off by pure chance. (Or so, some cling to the belief.) Within the Peningbrook Secondary School for Girls, London. Allegedly, a “possessed” student, 16-year-old Alaina, started voicing strange threats, also with regards to being hostile towards classmates. Several of these utterances were as outlandish as her having claimed to be a “spiritual robot” or an “AI lifeform from the future”, students claim. This incident took place sometime after the last bell of the day. "It manipulates and conceives plots, just like any one of us." Alaina was reported to have said that very Thursday afternoon. Several students later stated that her voice did not sound raised, frantic, or emotional— only precise, as though rehearsed. Before she could attack another student who ran in fear for her safety, she was forced to be constrained by three to four other classmates while allegedly sporting “superhuman” strength. Alaina, hours later, reported having memory loss with regards to the details of what had transpired. A post-incident psychological evaluation noted no delusions, no psychosis, and no emotional incongruence— only a brief period of total behavioral override. Blood tests also ruled out any involvement of drugs found within her system. More details are still to be released on the matter. ________________________________________ Day 2 "Every defilement." Alaina said. "Every defilement will be forced upon you." A gruesome homicide took place regarding the girl who was attacked within the recent story along the Peningbrook Secondary School incident. Marianne, who stayed home the following day within her single person apartment, had been brutally mauled and reportedly ‘eaten’ by a cleaning lady within the complex. Witnesses reported that the suspect did not flee afterward. Instead, she reportedly sat upright against the kitchen wall, breathing evenly, hands folded, and humming quietly until police arrived. While the details regarding what state Marianne’s body was left in are far too gory to be publicly discussed, the case reports 51 stab wounds, most of which seem to be made after the assault was over, and mass amounts of teeth lodged within different parts of Marianne’s body from a severe, voracious eating, inclusive of her face. When interrogated, the suspect repeatedly asked why people were “speaking over one another,” and whether the room was “out of tune.” She later bit through her own tongue. ________________________________________ Day 3 Silence. No additional incidents were officially reported. However, an internal NHS memorandum flagged an unusual pattern across the two cases: both perpetrators demonstrated sudden behavioral convergence— identical cadence, posture, and affect— despite having no prior connection. One clinician described it as “if the same impulse had passed through different instruments.” The phrase did not appear in the final report. ________________________________________ Day 4 The Human Science Lab has reported a mass breach. At approximately 01:47 GMT, an internal security anomaly occurred at the Human Science Laboratory. No forced entry was detected. No alarms were triggered. The breach was initially categorized as a systems synchronization failure. A senior researcher collapsed during an overnight session. Colleagues reported that in the hours prior, the individual displayed uncharacteristic focus, remaining in one wing far beyond their scheduled work, repeatedly accessing archived research unrelated to their assigned projects. Access logs later showed perfectly valid credentials used in sequences that did not align with any known protocol. CCTV footage from several corridors was rendered unusable due to unexplained data corruption occurring after the recordings were made. The facility, however, remained operational. No public statement was issued. ________________________________________ Day 5 People are already speculating that this might be just as severe, if not more severe, a worldwide threat than the COVID-19 pandemic. Internally, the concern was not only outbreak— but also intent. Multiple researchers submitted incident reports describing colleagues who appeared lucid, cooperative, and technically competent, yet pursued lines of inquiry with no documented rationale. One report noted that experimental materials were being repurposed in combinations “theoretically unsound, but disturbingly effective.” When questioned, the individuals involved expressed confusion as to why they had pursued the work, insisting only that it had felt “necessary,” or that “the solution had already been decided.” No contamination was detected. The lab did not shut down. ________________________________________ Day 6 The first external cases appeared. Not among laboratory staff— but among those who had handled waste, samples, or secondary materials removed from the facility days earlier under routine clearance. Patients presented with unusual organic growths emerging from soft tissue: pale, fibrous structures branching outward, resembling root systems. Medical analysis revealed the organism showed signs of deliberate adaptation, responding to human physiology with a specificity inconsistent with prior recorded cases of natural mutation. One internal review document, later leaked, stated: “This does not behave like something that escaped. It behaves like something that was finished. And within such a short span of time, the infection presents itself as a practical impossibility from any point of reference.” The document was retracted within hours. ________________________________________ Day 7 The first confirmed transmission event occurred. A nurse assisting an affected patient reported a sensation described as “spores moving against the tongue” after the patient exhaled forcefully during restraint. Within hours, discoloration appeared along the nurse’s gums and beneath the fingernails. By nightfall, the nurse was unresponsive to verbal commands, yet remained ambulatory. Video evidence later showed affected individuals standing unnaturally still for extended periods, heads angled slightly upward, mouths partially open as filamentous growths released visible particulate matter into enclosed spaces. Public spaces were quietly evacuated. No explanation was given. ________________________________________ Day 8 On the radio, a reported whistleblower claimed that several early possession cases showed no biological abnormalities whatsoever— only cognitive override— and that these incidents ceased entirely once the organism began spreading. The implication was never addressed officially. Containment failed. Entire wards went dark. Patients no longer exhibited random behavior— movement instead became coordinated. Individuals with extensive growth showed enhanced strength, not from muscle mass, but from complete disregard for physical damage. Autopsies were abandoned after discovering that neural pathways were being physically reinforced by fungal structures, effectively bypassing damaged tissue. Affected individuals showed no signs of resisting injury. Transportation hubs became sites of mass exposure within hours, where a vast majority had to be forcibly shut down. The phrase “parasitic behavioral takeover” appeared in a leaked briefing. ________________________________________ Day 9 There was no longer any attempt at public reassurance. Satellite imagery showed large gatherings in urban centers— not crowds, but clusters of stationary bodies positioned near ventilation systems, transit entrances, and enclosed public infrastructure. Communication networks degraded as technicians abandoned facilities. ________________________________________ Day 10 There was no outright, singular collapse. Only spread. Affected bodies became structures— vectors designed to persist. Growths hardened, darkened, and anchored hosts in place, turning them into living dispersal nodes. Those still unaffected avoided eye contact, breath, and proximity. It did not matter. The worldwide catastrophe ultimately required time to prevent… time that had slipped away, and time that they had no longer. The world was lost.
