It Takes Two To Mew

Chapter One

Realization?

A few idle taps on the dusty, multi-floored car park building's opening on a ledge left the low hum of boredom to be heard, and a small, black-ish gray layer of grime to gather upon their cleaner, pink paw. Leaning with a small cough, they picked up on this and dusted it off with a quick '1-2' of the other paw, and simply sighed. The sun was setting under a blindingly beautiful, orange-hued sky, and what seemed like staring at motorized machines going back and forth (and back and forth) again felt like hours... when it had actually just been minutes. They saw no enjoyment in the activity, and as a result, hints of mischief trickled down their frame like a very fountain of temptation; gathering swiftly, and grouping up. Grouping... and... With the lift of a limb, one of the cars became swept up in a mystical aura, and, with wheels screeching like the vilest of dragons, was quick to lose control, and soon smashed into another car on the highway, the angle causing the first to flip and chain into... well... Chaos. The Mew chuckled, glad to get a faint giggle out of the place for once as they watched and listened to the carnage below them ensue. Shouting... yelling back... alarms... and the like. It had all happened so swiftly, but the side effects lasted so much longer. Once they were finished getting a kick out of it, they flew all the way up to the top of the roof, which, from where they were previously, wasn't all that far (and their speed made it go by like an instant, too). From there, among the rooftop, their eyes met a similar, recent blue that appeared childish, but somehow held an archaic look deeper inside. They were still laughing, while the other was more serious in tone, and both floated around each other like loose, acrobatic Drifloon from time to time. "Did you see that?! I only set *one* of those cars off, and everything else went whoom, and whammy!" They exclaimed with a polite smile, proud of explaining, and proud to say. "Yeah... I was watching," The shiny, blue Mew on the other side spoke with a slightly frustrated voice to the pink, regular Mew, but it hardly came out that way, especially from their higher pitches, "but you really didn't have to do that, you know. It wasn't very nice." "I know, but I did it anyway, and it was so cool!" The pink Mew moved back over to the edge of the roof, and watched down at their workings like art, "Look again, look again!" Their encouragement left the other to indeed look again, but as they continued to stare, a look of disappointment started to wear against their expression more and more. "Yeah, I see..." "You say 'yeah' a lot!" The pink Mew noticed this, and gently nuzzled the other's neck in a light surprise to help them to relax a little. It usually worked, and it did this time, too, despite causing them to blush sometimes as a result, including then. "Look, I'm not going to do this all the time... I may not even do this again if you don't want me to," They remarked, "but I didn't care at the time because—..." "Because...?" The blue Mew asked, eyes widened slightly. "Because this place is really boring, and it gets me down." They sighed again, before continuing in their speech, "I brought you here to show you the conditions of how it looks now... but back when *I* was born, this place was full of far, far more life. Now it's just full of grumpy Pokemon and... smog." Observing attentively, the other could see the look of despair and regret now formed upon their partner's face, reaching out for them in an attempt to ease their troubles. "H-hey, it's alright..." The blue hugged them lightly, grabbing the other's attention immediately, "It's not your fault, right? Things just happened to be this way. You couldn't do much about it, even if you tried; you're just one person. And after all..." They leaped off after another thought that came into their mind, "W-wait, were you even here for this when it all happened? The whole... 'Eromaner' thing- is what you've been calling it...?" "That's not what *I* call it," The pink explained further with a bit of reluctance playing against their form, "That's what *they* call it. But... no, and yes. To answer your question, I wasn't actually here, because I was in the garden almost all the time, like I am these days, too. I was there to witness Pokemon beginning to collaborate with each other from different species, for the first times ever. I was there for the small villages... towns... yes, but I was *never* there for this. I strayed away for too long, thinking everything would've been just fine, and now... it's all led up to *this*." Their eyes were shot tearful, yet too solemn to ever shed a tear, staring down at the world like a freakish creation. "And when I finally came out to see this... I was crushed." "So in other words... it was actually your fault?" The blue asked as their eyes lit up curiously, still holding them tight, before the other broke the gentle grasp upon hearing this. "What— no it isn't! I- I can't take responsibility for all of *this*! I was just sleeping, and playing, a-and doing everything else I did! But in time, I don't even think I could've seen this coming. I just couldn't..." "...And you said they were killing themselves," The blue added, putting a paw to their mouth in another process of thought, "It does seem that way..." They hastily recalled to when they both had managed to see a brutish fight play out in an alleyway between a Cacturne and a Gabite, and even then, a Rhyhorn and a Magmortar exiting from their cars, already on their way to 'throw-down' and toss hands. "I'm sorry, but I'm really not sure what to make of this, Mew. I wish I could be of more help..." Snapping out of their sudden stroke of anger which was already dimming down faintly, just like the sky turning a coming night with light azures and lighter purples settling in, they put up a soft smile to try to make the other feel better. "N-no, I'm the one supposed to be sorry!" They floated over and held the other's paws in theirs. "No one is at fault here... except the ones that made it this way. I'm not, and you're certainly not, either!" Letting the grip go after a while of staring at each other, they continued speaking with a small chuckle igniting their voice some more, "Heck, you were just born the other day, so there's no way this could ever be your problem, Blue!" Taking this into consideration, they smiled back at the pink Mew sheepishly, rubbing their paw against their cheek, "Y-yeah... I guess so..." Once their blush subsided again however, they spoke up once more, "Off of that topic though, can we decide already what we should call each other? Because I'm really confused on how we're doing that, too..." "What do you mean?" They snickered lightly in response, finding the question a funny, but reasonable one, "I'm Mew, and you're... blue Mew! Didn't we already decide on that before?" "Eh, sort of..." The blue Mew said in contemplation, "Although you did call me just 'Blue' a minute or two ago, and not 'blue Mew'. " They paused for a small while, "Does that mean I should call you- err... what's the word..." "Pink?" "Y-yeah, that!" Laughing giddily at their reaction, the pink Mew smiled again, except this time more genuinely so, "Pink... and Blue." They laughed some more, "That sounds so dumb, but I like it!" Exclaiming, they spun their body around jubilantly in the air before coming to an eventual halt, causing the other to giggle a bit as well. "You see, it really hasn't been a name problem because, until you popped up, I was the only Mew around that I even knew of! So I just called myself 'Mew'! Now we can call ourselves names by our colors, and that'd be really cool!" Blue then chuckled in response, "Mhm... I guess you're right..." "If you're coming up with such great ideas already, then you'll be amazing later, trust me! But for now, let's just... get out of this dump. It's really depressing." With a curt, understanding nod, Blue reached their paw out to Pink's, grabbing onto it as the two were then submerged in a multi-colored array of light, and teleported somewhere farther off. Much, much farther off. And this was when their adventure truly began.
